Seattle's own one-ring, 11 peaple circus brings its ?Eat Circus? 2002 Tour to Chicago with a dazzlingly bizarre, late-night extravaganza of aerial feats, acrobatics, object manipulation, vaudevillian artistry, and startling and unique live music. On Thursday through Saturday, September 19-21, Circus Contraption will transform the Chopin Theatre into a dark and restless dream-world populated by surreal and dangerous characters. Please note that all shows feature Mature Content (though all ages are welcome).

Performing on everything from banjo, stand-up bass, accordion, saw, clarinet and trumpet, to frying pans, washboard, and junk percussion, the Circus Contraption Band serves up all-original compositions to accompany the likes of aardvark ballerinas, undead acrobats and saucy hoochie-coochie girls. At any given moment these might include junkyard blues, Nick Cave-esque rants, tangos, waltzes, klezmer, polkas, circus music, Irish shanties and besotted torch songs. Quirky-jerky-loony-croony-gypsy-carnival-opera-circus music. Circus Contraption?s CD ?Our Latest Catalogue,? available at the show, tells dark-carnival tales of waltzing witch-hunters, nightmare clowns and drowned sailors, with just a touch of cotton-candy sweetness.

Circus Contraption toured festivals, theaters and clubs throughout the West Coast in Summer 2001, playing to packed houses. Its new production ?Gallimaufry? was a sold-out hit in Seattle this spring. Circus Contraption was a big hit again this summer at the High Sierra Music Festival as well as in San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Denver.

Here's what past audiences have had to say about Circus Contraption:

"Tim Burton would sell what's left of his soul for just a sip of this vintage vaudeville" - The Stranger
"generally weird mischief.. a purely randy, freewheeling spirit" - Seattle Weekly
" twisted, joyous mayhem" - Santa Cruz Sentinel
" suitably frightening clowns and a deliciously odd band" - Willamette Week

Circus Contraption keeps on delighting and disturbing its audiences everywhere. Take a peek and discover what's under their "Big Top" when they come to town
