TryArts: Backer's Audition featuring Hopera, Encyclopedia Show and Paderewski in the Park
Chopin Productions

Chicago Reader - "Always wanted to bankroll a show, just like Guy Kibbee in 42nd street?  Here's your chance.  Chopin Theatre's TryArts program has put together a backer's audition, featuring three works-in-progress looking for their angels.

The three are HOpera: Chronicles of a Fallen Hero, a hip-hop opera; The Encyclopedia Show, in which participants "create new poems based on encyclopedia topics" and Paderewski in the Park Piano Festival which would put free piano concerts in public spaces" - February 6, 2009

TryArts (or try outs) is a showcase of three works already presented which have great potential to become much larger and successful projects. It creates for the artist another opportunity to progress on their works and audiences to help evaluate the concept or even get involved to support financially or in-kind.
Today’s free showcase features:
Hopera
The Encyclopedia Show
Paderewski in the Park

Hopera: Chronicles of a Fallen Hero
is a hip-hop Opera presenting original music, a blend of classical and popular vocals, dancers and hip hop artists. Its libretto follows a young African American male struggling to beat the odds. Produced by HoperaWorld, whose company goal is to explore the musical fusion of hip hop and opera (Hopera).

The Encyclopedia Show
asks its participants to create new poems based on Encyclopedia topics. Because the writers have "poetic license" interpreting their assignments, surprising and hilarious poems are created.

The brainchild of poets Robbie Telfer (from Young Chicago Authors) and Shanny Jean, it has received two sold-out presentations at the Main Stage and in the future could promote a more entertaining and innovative approach to poetry.

Paderewski In the Park
- In contrast to high profile well-funded concerts in downtown venues, Chopin Theatre would like to present free piano concerts in Wicker Park public spaces. In the past such concerts were performed there by famous pianist I.J Paderewski.

The Sunday afternoon concerts are envisioned to be presented in August and September with two young artists, one local and one international.

TryArts guest Piotr Zukowski initiated the first festival in 2001 at age 19 and is returning to support the idea again. His accomplishments include:

1st Prize International "Anemos" Piano Concert Rome 2004

1st Prize International Rubinstein Competition Aqua Termi 2003

Please contact info@chopintheatre.com if you would to support any of the projects.
