Sara Paretsky is a best-selling mystery writer and novelist. Her newest mystery, Hard Time, features the popular Chicago-based sleuth, V.I. Warshawsky. In her 1998 novel, Ghost County, Paretsky tackled the issue of the plight of the homeless. She is a founding member of Sisters in Crime, and organization that supports women mystery writers. She also established the Mary Edwards and Sara Paretsky Scholarship. She lives with her husband and golden retriever here in Chicago.

Ursula Humiennik, a native of Poland, is entering her Senior year at Whitney Young High School on Chicago?s West side. She Placed second in the university of Wisconsin (Whitewater) short story contest. Ursula has also produced to magazines for Young Chicago Authors this marks her first reading at Guild Complex.

Sarah Kozlowski is I her first year at Columbia College, where she?s majoring in fiction writing. She?s received numerous writing awards, including 3d place at the UIC Millennium Poetry Contest for 1999. Sarah?s been published in several poetry anthologies and literary magazines. She is completing her first novel.

Alan Lawrence is a senior at Lincoln Park High School and a member of Young Chicago Authors. A writer of many genres including, poetry and prose, Alan is a finalist in the Pegasus Young Playwrights festival. This is Alan?s first reading at the Guild Complex.
