Informed by the poetry of community, the literature of working people, issues of labor and freedom and an urgen sense of documenting the dance we all do with everyday attractions and repulsions, Funderburk has come full-force with a collection of new work.
These are bold gestures in blue-collar media demonstrating a sensitive balance of reason and spontaneity, physical displays thought-- its procession and consequence -- striking at complacency in an extravagant display of freedom in thinking, feeling and sharing. The whimsical and cynical are somewhere else; heare are paintings which stand squarely jawed in the face of contemporary isolation, anxiety and contempt -- paintings that are as aggressive and objective as plants.
