How does the post-Civil Rights generation of Black artists and writers respond to the social/political issues that affect us today? ?Role Call? (Third World Press 2002) reflects the love for self, family, and community necessary to any struggle for equality. Chicago contributors to the anthology scheduled to read include Tara Betts, Bryant Smith, Tyehimba Jess, Duriel E. Harris, Gwendolyn Mitchell and others.
Following the reading the contributors will convene a panel discussion on the state of contemporary black literature; founder of Third World Press, Haki R. Madhubuti, will join them. The panel will be moderated by one of the editors of ?Role Call?, Quraysh Ali Lansana.
