Nelson Algren fountain cover on the Polish Triangle, which is located across from Chopin Theatre, has seen better days.  It was deteriorated, unsafe and depressing. So we decided to do something to make you smile!

And created a new, sturdy, cheerful replacement cover.  We hired an architect (Steve Pantazis) for drawings that were approved by Alderman Hopkins and the City; hired a carpenter (Elyse Estes) to build it and partnered with Home Depot (discounted plywood) and Lowe's (donated paint and supplies).

A few days before Christmas, the City took out the hold cover and installed the new one.  To combat pigeons we furnished electronic and light reflecting deterrents and put up signs.

To use more poetic phrasing, the New cover is a Wonder Shield against Coronavirus Depression. That busy intersection in Wicker Park is now more welcoming and uplifting for the next four months of Winter.
