5/22/12 at 730p - "Fifty Lakes One Island," a documentary made in 2011 by Chicago filmmaker George Desort whom spent eighty nights on Isle Royale, a wilderness island on Lake Superior.  Traveling alone with his camera equipment and as much food as he could fit into his kayak, Desort explored the rugged terrain of the island, filming himself each difficult step of the way.  Desort’s breathtaking footage paired with his personal, unvarnished story-telling result in a film that will spur viewers to visit the outdoors as soon as possible.

 

Desort’s film and photography work has appeared in Audubon, National Geographic, Backpacker, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and PBS affiliates across the country. His first full-length documentary, “Fortunate Wilderness, the wolf and moose study of Isle Royale” was a finalist at the 2009 International Wildlife Film Festival.

 
George Desort will be present for a Q&A before and after the screening, which is set for 7:30 pm on May 22 at the 150-seat Chopin Theatre at 1543 W. Division Street in Chicago.  Admission will be $7.  The reception from 6-9 pm will include a cash bar and complimentary appetizers and desserts provided by Blue Sky Bakery & Café (blue-sky-bakery.org.)
