The role of the singer-songwriter has always been at the core of popular music. Women take center stage in this discussion that will explore the past, present and future of the singer-songwriter in popular music in general, specifically with respect to poetry and spoken word. Panelists include emcee/vocalist/hip-hop activist Amina Norman-Hawkins, vocalist Jaqueline Wilson, recording artist Ellen Rosner, and songwriter/composer Niki Mitchell. Chicago?s own, singer/songwriter/recording artist Maggie Brown, will moderate the panel

Chicago?s own, singer/songwriter/recording artist Maggie Brown, will moderate the panel. This event will also feature music by Ellen Rosner, who will perform songs from her new CD entitled Count to Three. The Guild Complex Musicality of Poetry series is made possible in part by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.
