After many years of performing around the country in jazz groups, bassist Mitar Mitch Covic settled in Chicago and turned his attention to composing musical settings for performance poets. He was the music director of the seminal poetry/music ensemble David Hernandez and Street Sounds for eight years. His recitals of original compositions for solo acoustic bass have been influenced by this work in the literary community and he considers his compositions to be narrative scenarios into which he invites listeners to become co-authors.
John S. O?Connor is a folk singer who has set poems of Yeats, Frost, Burns, and others to music on a CD entitled Evenings and Other Beginnings. He has published his poetry in journals such as Modern Haiku, Acorn, Frogpond, black bough, Tundra, The Heron?s Nest, and Cicada. He currently teaches England a the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, where he also directs the Writers? Center.
