2001 Oscar Best Short Film “Father and Daughter” - Michael Dudok de Wit
Music by Amos Gillespie

A father says goodbye to his young daughter and leaves. As the wide Dutch landscapes live through their seasons so the girl lives through hers. She becomes a young woman, has a family and in time she becomes old, yet within her there is always a deep longing for her father.

"Father and Daughter is a film about longing, the kind of longing which quietly, yet totally, affects our lives." -- Michael Dudok de Wit

Heart of the World by Guy Maddin
music by Seth Boustead

From Wikipedia – “"The Heart of the World is a short film written and directed by Guy Maddin, produced for the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival. It is a homage to silent movies, and as such, it is black and white, grainy, and without dialogue, and contains many references to styles and movies of the silent era.

Only 6 minutes long, it runs at a very fast pace, at an average rate of two shots per second, which is intensified by the background music, Time, forward!, by Georgy Vasilevich Sviridov."

Sound of Silent Film Festival presents a new score for Heart of the World composed by Chicago composer Seth Boustead. Please join us for this ground-breaking event!

G.M. by Martin Pickles music by Randall West

An Edwardian gentleman is tormented by spirits who appear through holes in his sitting-room wall paper.

'G.M.' was inspired by the work of magician and film pioneer Georges Melies (1861-1938), whose most famous film - 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' - was exactly one hundred years old in 2001 when 'G.M.' was made.

Cheating, Inc. by William Lorton
Music by Eric Reda

A class of students cheat on their exam in this 1991 comedy by William Lorton.

Happily Ever After by Lidia Sheinin
Music by Jude Matthews

Did you ever wonder what happens when the last page is turned? 'Happily Ever After' allows you to find out by pushing the boundaries of traditional cinematographic storytelling.

It's warm and beautiful, and yet in a most innovative and lighthearted way it's asking us to think, and think hard.
