Chopin’s Brunch continues the great tradition of European salons presenting new artistic and intellectual ideas as well as being a center for  social exchange. 


Today's concert celebrates 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin’s birth and is presented by Jacobs School of Music, IU – Bloomington.   Special guest pianist Edward Auer, first American prize winner International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.  

 

Chopin’s Brunch takes place in the salon-like setting of Chopin Theatre’s Lounge.  The elegant buffet brunch is served approx 11am and features a stimulating interactive presentation on various thought provoking subjects.  The brunch concludes with performances of Chopin's music from a young, promising musicians and vocalistst.  Often international students from leading American conservatories.  Today's complete program includes:

 

11a Studio - Complimentary brunch (w/cash bar) at the theater’s “Parisian” Cabaret Studio during which Prof. Bill Johnston introduces performing artists and program.  Also informal talk on “Why Chopin is Polish, French, Israeli, Mongolian, Japanese, etc!"


1p Mainstage - “Fryderyk Chopin:Varsovian, Pole, Citizen of the World” multimedia lecture by Halina Goldberg, Professor of Musicology


120p - Performance by students Alexandre Tsomaia (piano), Laura Waters (voice) and Rafał Zyskowski (viola).  All are receiptents of Polish Studies Artists in Residence scholarship.


220p - Intermission


240p -  Performance by Edward Auer, Professor of Piano at Jacobs School of Music, IU.  Mr. Auer is the first American to win a prize in the prestigious Chopin International Competition of Warsaw.

          

330p - Mingling


Tickets are $25/$15 seniors/students.  Complimentary parking at Holy Trinity Church - 1 block east of theatre at Division/Noble.
