This showcase highlights the contextual collaboration of musical meditations on spoken word, sounds, and rhythms. The program includes performances in Spanish with Nahuatl and English. Ensemble members include Lisa Alvarado, Jose David Quinones, Sulima Moya, Carlos Cortez and others. Poets will be accompanied by musical selections from the Pan-American genre.

Lisa Alvarado is a daughter of Oya, poet and installation artist. She has two works in development, Dark Water Speaking and The Housekeeper?s Diary.

Jose David Quinones is the founder, director and life-force of Calles y Suenos, a non-profit artistic space in Pilsen. He is a son of Chicago, performer and most importantly a survivor.

Sulima Moya was a pivotal contributor to Revista Chicana/Riquena. She has worked in cultural and program development for many years. Sulima wilds her literary scalpel to such topics as the emotional life of women, their relationships and others and the community.

Carlos Cortez is an elder teacher, Wobbly, traveler, artist and a voice for those who have none. He has published several works with Marcia/Abazo Press, including de Kansas y Califas. He continues to be a visionary, inspiring generations of Chicanos/Chicanas to awake and rise.
